Organic growing media and microbial fertiliser production in Quảng Nam

Together with the Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute (SFRI), Minh Tâm carried out a project under the Rural and Mountainous Areas Programme: producing organic growing media and microbial fertilisers and building demonstration models for medicinal plants, flowers and ornamentals in Quảng Nam.

The project "Applying science and technology to build production models for organic growing media and microbial fertilisers for forestry, medicinal and ornamental plants in Quảng Nam Province" belongs to the national programme supporting the application and transfer of science and technology for socio-economic development in rural, mountainous and ethnic-minority areas (2016–2025). Its kick-off conference took place in Quảng Nam on 21 February 2023, run jointly by Minh Tam Agricultural Development JSC and the Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute.

Technical training was held in Hà Nội and in Quảng Nam, covering laboratory culture of microorganisms, fermenter operation and mixing of growing media. The strains cultured include Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium and Azotobacter vinelandii; first- and second-stage broths of the phosphate-solubilising, antagonistic and Azotobacter strains were checked before production.

The first batch of growing media and microbial fertiliser (batch 1, lot 0) has been produced. The project set up demonstration models, one for a medicinal plant (ba kích) in Tây Giang district and one for flowers and ornamentals, together with training sessions and workshops for local growers.
